Thoughts? Should parents teach their kids to use VPS's and cryptographic software?

How is that even legal, threatening to bring you to court or charging 600 euros. Sounds scarily similar to extortion.

    Back to the article. Damn.

Back to the question. Parents should not. What they should do, is get them out of Finland, and live in Madagascar.

Wait a minute, this doesn't add up to me. Let me sum it up from how I understand it.

First, the girl couldn't afford to buy the music from the store, tries downloading it a song online, those downloads don't work, so they go to the music store later on and buy the music. Even after having legally purchased the music CIAPC sends them a letter asking for money. No warnings, no 3-strikes and you're out, just "Hey we caught you, give us money". The father refuses to pay, the police come and take little girl's laptop.

Now, what's more is the artist of the music the girl was downloading, Chisu, said that she didn't want to sue anyone, and on top of that posted on her Facebook a free download link for all her music. How awesome is that? As you can imagine made CIAPC look like an a$$hole.

So what this means to me is what's important to artists is staying loyal to their fans, and I agree with that. But according to CIAPC it's only about the money. So this makes me wonder... if that father would have paid the 600 Euros that CIAPC demanded, how much of that would have EVER made it to Chisu's bank account? None?

Sounds to me like CIAPC takes advantage of artists. From my understanding, music fans, they lose. Artists and bands, they lose. CIAPC, they win, for doing nothing.

Very true, and very nicely put. Do you think that it should even be illegal (or grey zoned) to download from a torrent site?

This is what happens when you try to make an example of those that dont settle out of court, and sign a disclosure agreement. I just wonder how many of these (more then the 28) were not mentioned, and the people can not bring up due to their disclosure agreements. I will say, steer clear of torrents, as they are not secure, and never were meant to be.

Because it's pirated software. and most pirated software is protected by copyright, so using it without purchasing it from a authorized retailer is illegal.

Seriously? Cops now work for companies to raid nine year olds computers???
Don't cops have anything better to do these days than harassing little girls and measuring distances from fire hydrants with a measuring tape? They could be out doing their job protecting the community and hunting down "real" bad guys, or is that be asking too much?

They should be doing that, but it's in Finland, and the rules there are much different from America.

Raiding alittle girl is just wrong, she probably had no idea that it was illegal. They would be better off "visiting" a guy that makes money off this activity instead.
