    Solomon's General Store:

    Greetings, adventurer!

Today I am proud to introduce to you a truly monumental release from Solomon’s General Store: Special Pets!

These astounding and faithful companions love to interact, both with other pets and - indeed - with you. Over time your new best friend will grow from baby to adolescent, and adolescent to adult, changing appearance and learning helpful tricks – such as picking up loot – every step of the way. There's no need to feed these fine creatures with ordinary food, as they will never run away. However, they will grow faster if you feed them with specialised treats, also available from Solomon’s General Store.

Once your pet has reached one of these life stages, you may switch between any of its unlocked appearances as you wish. Each of the three appearances has two emotes to go along with it, which may be seen by interacting with your new companion.

The loyal, formidable blazehound and the noble skypouncer are available now from my store, and there’s so much to say about them that I’d highly recommend investigating the Special Pets FAQ to get the most out of your new companion.

Do you have any queries regarding my distinguished boutique? I’m confident you’ll find an answer in my official store FAQ, found here.

If you’ve yet to visit my establishment, why not drop in and receive 200 RuneCoins absolutely free? Remember that if you wish to purchase additional RuneCoins, you can do so here or by clicking ‘Buy RuneCoins’ inside my store. Don’t forget that I offer a 10% discount to all members.

    Until next time.

Squeal of Fortune: Tradeable Christmas Gifts

Santa’s sleigh has been hit by turbulence, scattering Christmas gifts across Gielinor. Collect sets of these presents to claim some fine festive fare – including a new rare cosmetic item!

Depending on which combination of missing presents you collect, you can get mince pies; mistletoe, complete with a kiss emote; a Christmas pudding amulet that grants bonus XP as you train; or a rare, tradeable Christmas tree hat! Claim a reward for a single present, or collect a set of up to five different presents for even better rewards! The presents are tradeable player-to-player - although not on the Grand Exchange - so meet up and get swapping to collect all five different colours! While blue and green presents can be used by free players and members, the red, white and purple presents are for members only.

Like strange rocks, the missing gifts can be found randomly on monsters, or while skilling. They can also be won on the Squeal of Fortune itself. The presents will be dropping in the world and will be available on the Squeal of Fortune between Wednesday 19th December 00:00 GMT until Monday 31st December 23:59 GMT.

Inspect a present for information on how to swap it for a reward or combine it into a set. If you still have presents in your possession in the new year, you’ll still be able to trade them in for rewards until Tuesday January 14th 2013; after then, the presents will disappear. Full details can be found on the official FAQ.

You can purchase spins here, or by clicking “Add Spins” next to the wheel in Squeal of Fortune. Don’t forget that subscribing will bag you two daily spins instead of one. If you’re hunting for ways of getting extra spins, check out our Squeal of Fortune wiki page.

Og Blog: EoC and the Grand Exchange

    Hi all,

Over the last month, or so we have all noticed the effect of the new combat system on the price of objects on the Grand Exchange. It’s due to a variety of different factors, all of which are worth a decent discussion. It’s my hope that this blog will stimulate some healthy debate on the forums, and will lead to a series of changes to improve the new system.

Prices on the GE are falling in response to the volume of items being sold on the GE; right now people are panic-selling items, because they are afraid the price of the items will go down considerably. This is self-fulfilling; as so many people are liquidating their priciest assets just in case their rare items become less valuable, the price of these items is going down. If this carries on, then it means the price will continue to drop, and will do so quickly. The demand for these items has generally stayed the same - people still want high-level , rare gear - but the number of sellers has increased disproportionately.

It’s often the case that we experience this sort of dramatic rise and fall in items prices – just look at the effect on the Grand Exchange just before - and after - a Bonus XP Weekend or bonus drop event.

It’s worth mentioning that the price of objects - especially high-level and rarer gear - has been steadily, yet slowly, declining for a number of months. This is quite natural, considering that there are more of these items entering the game every day and not many going out. Most high-level players are capable of avoiding the cost of death, returning to their graves to pick up any potentially lost equipment. This steady decline has been magnified by the introduction of the EoC and the general market panic.

There are a number of reasons to hold onto your gear:

    1) New Updates

Several updates in development now are targeted at high-level players with the best gear. Updates like the Kalphite King and the new Slayer dungeon are being designed under the assumption that players will be using the best gear available to them. Using second-rate gear meant for lower levels just won’t do the job! All of the equipment intended for the next level tier will degrade or have higher repair costs, so don’t assume that the current highest level gear will be out of date - far from it!

    2) Set Effects and Nex Gear

We're working on adding set effects to Nex gear (Torva, Pernix and Virtus), in line with your feedback, and are aiming to bring this out in early 2013. We're also continuing to look at the basic stats of the equipment and the enemies we expect a player to be fighting while wearing it. New benefits should mean that the price of these items will increase as their desirability goes beyond pre-EoC levels.

    3) Feedback and Improvements to the EoC

As with any integral part of the game, development and balancing of the Evolution of Combat is ongoing, even post-launch. The list of features we're currently monitoring most closely includes how players use prayers, potions and food. For example, right now we can see that mid-level gear can be used to fight larger, tougher creatures than we had originally anticipated. This is something we want to change. We can also see how the use of items like Saradomin brews have changed since the introduction of defensive abilities and the new ways in which Constitution affects the healing amount of food. We have plenty of plans for rebalancing and improving the combat game as stands now, and as we won't make any major changes without being sure it's the right thing, these statistics and your feedback on the forums are vital.

    4) Getting the Hang of the EoC

Right now people are still learning how to get the best out of the new system. New guides are being written every day by the community, but there still isn’t a definitive answer to the question “what is the best thing for me to do?” More than ever, combat in RuneScape is about choosing the right gear for a specific task, and in a game as huge and complex as ours, that's going to take time to learn. We're looking at putting together some guides ourselves, and as more people work out the best gear for particular situations, those prices will grow and stabilise.

In summary: don’t assume that the combat system, nor the items within it, will stay the same. Also, don't be tempted to sell up all your best gear 'just to be safe'. Once the changes we have in mind are launched, and the demand for high-end equipment becomes even higher than before, we are confident that the prices will rise again.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the forums! As always, we value your constructive feedback beyond anything else.

    A Stray in a Manger

A Stray in a Manger (free players and members)

The stray dog of Varrock has been a flea-ridden, doleful-eyed RuneScape mainstay since 2007, but enough is enough: in the spirit of seasonal goodwill and festive charity, it's time to give the stray dog a home.

In this year's Christmas event - A Stray in a Manger - you'll help out a snow imp who's been assigned to running Pet Christmas in Santa's stead. He'll ask you to round up the stray dog of Varrock and three other transient pooches from around Gielinor, in order to imbue them with a sense of purpose: as his stand-in reindeer!

Once they've delivered presents to the pets of the world, you'll have the choice of which of the four dogs you'd like to take on as your own, and a choice of locations in which to establish a fixed address for your four-legged friend. You'll have up until the end of the year to decide which dog and which kennel location are for keeps. After that, they'll remain a persistent part of the RuneScape world, as you see it.

Your rewards will be a wearable Santa beard and a Gift of Giving. The Gift of Giving works in a similar way to the parcel in the party game Pass the Parcel: you can open it once and receive an item of decor for your kennel. You can then trade your Gift of Giving for one held by another player, and you'll both be able to open the next layer or wrapping for another item. If you're lucky, you'll reach the item in the centre, which can be either a cosmetic Santa sack item for free players or members, or - for members only - a wayward snow impling who can grant you bonus Hunter XP (see the Snow Implings section). If you get to the centre and your Gift of Giving disappears, or you lose it for any reason, you can always get another from the snow imp and carry on swapping.

The decorations come in five types - colour schemes, bowls, mats, toys and flea circuses - and each type has variations themed around Saradomin, Guthix, Zamorak and Zaros. There's even a 'Santa' title to unlock - usable only by members - if you can get hold of at least one of each of the following: a bowl, a mat, a toy and a flea circus.

It's not possible to continually swap Gifts of Giving back and forth between the same two people, so get into the festive spirit and start swapping with as many people as you can!

    Snow Implings (members only)

Members will also be able to catch errant snow implings found flying across the world. These have no Hunter level requirement and can be caught bare-handed, but give a range of festive food from previous Christmas events or kennel customisations in exchange for their freedom.

There's even a small chance that a captured impling will be one of the snow imp's wayward assistants. There are four of these, and each one is worth 50,000 bonus Hunter XP - stored and given out as you train - when handed back to their boss. They can also be found in layers of the Gift of Giving.

    Merry Christmas!

    Mod Srowley

    Discuss this here.

How to start A Stray in a Manger:

Speak to the snow imp just north of Draynor Village.
    Requirements:

    None.

    Behind the Scenes Video

Santa's looking blue in the face in our recent Behind the Scenes video, as he takes you through A Stray in a Manger. Brr!

    In Other News

Give an altogether less needy pet a home this Christmas, as Solomon's brings Special Pets into stock! Further details can be found at Solomon's General Store, or here.
You'll find Tradeable Gifts on the Squeal of Fortune from today until the end of the year, as well as through drops and skilling activities. Claim the rewards from these straight away, or gather them and trade them with other players to make collections for even greater rewards. Further details can be found here.
Most pets - including those with a Summoning requirement - no longer need food in order to stay with you. The only exceptions are cats from Gertrude, which will still run away if not fed.

The gifts look sweet, if they're F2P I'll need to look out for them .

Also anyone else really hate that fire-dog thing? It looks like they edited a fireball in as a neck, no transitions or anything.

It's too bad the good SoF gifts are membs only, but that's to be expected. The Christmas event sounds fun though--I'll be damned if that lovable, flea-bitten pooch doesn't have a home by the end of it

On a side-note, it's interesting that they introduced a Zaros theme along with color themes from the three main gods. Perhaps Zaros will be making his way back into relevance soon...? #UnfoundedSpeculation #Lore #GodWars #Hashtag
Long ago, the '90s Nicktoons lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the century turned. Only Avatar, the best of the 2000's Nicktoons, could save them. But when the channel needed it most, the show finished. Four years passed and Mike and Bryan created the new Avatar: Legend of Korra. And although the show itself is great, it has a long way to go before it can live up to The Last Airbender. But I believe Korra can save Nickelodeon.

The purple gift is selling as much as 60m right now... I'm running a couple bots 24/7 in hopes of getting one. So far I only have red, which I think is selling at 1m.
The rewards from them are only available until the 31st so that makes them worth a whole lot more. Just an attempt to get people to buy more spins.

    +1.

Solomon's store is just stupid, I just get the free stuff from it when Jagex are hunting money off the 11 year olds that actually think stuff inside the store is good.
