Default How to get Java working on Linux / With FireFox?

EDIT: Working now, switched to Ubuntu Mint 14 KDE 32-bits and just playing around. Interesting stuff. Thanks for the responses.

    Hey,

I recently build a new computer for my mother as her old one crashed and was 3 years old. So my dad thought it was time for a new one as he renews all his computers within 2-3 years. Anyways, because I build it I could keep her old computer and I've managed to repair it now.

I've installed Linux Ubuntu 12.10 ARM64 as I thought it would be nice to experiment with. So far it's working smoothly but as as Linux noob I have some problems.

I've managed to install Java (I think) but I got stuck trying to get it working in Firefox.

Any advice on what I need to do?

Why don't you just used icedtea plugin?

Packages (depending on which java version you're using):
    icedtea-6-plugin or icedtea-7-plugin

It'll automatically install the plugin for you in all compatible browsers.

Thanks everyone, and I'm just experimentating and new to Linux.
I was running Ubuntu 12.10 ARM64 but switched to Mint 14 KDE 32-bits now. I don't really want to mess with 32/64-bit compatibility stuff at this moment.

Thanks for the links and advices and together with this http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1091 I've now got Java running

If anyone has any advice for Desktop Environments or skins let me know. I've seen quite some nice ones in YouTube tuts!

It really depends what you want as far as DE's are concerned, personally I generally always use XFCE just because it's a nice, lightweight and simple DE.
