Do you leave it plugged in and wrap the wire around your phone while transporting it? If so, that puts a ton of extra pressure on the end (and wires inside) that connect the earphones to anything. Unplugging it before wrapping it makes a huge difference in how long the earphones can last.

1-Turn your music down! Not only is loud music likely to ruin your headphones, additionally, it is really bad for your eardrums!

2- Do not use tiny headphones on a stereo that isn't designed for them. There is a possibility that the power applied to the headphones will be too great for the headphones to handle.

3- Avoid letting the earphones dangle or spin them. The centripetal forces will damage the delicate electronics in them, and will ruin the sound quality.

4- Avoid sharp pulls on the headphone cord. This will pull the wires out of their holders over time, making them unusable.

5- Do not leave them on the ground even the slightest pressure damages them and over time they will break

6- Don't put them in water

I'm assume you're using cheap $10 or less earbuds?

Check out that thread and get the Monoprice headphones I/lots of people ended up getting. Cheap, good build quality, good sound quality. The connector has extra metal and rubber around it so it should be pretty sturdy.

    No I use Headrush ($74.99).
This is my third time replacing the wire and my dad is fed up with it..
And no, I don't wrap the wires, i don't swing/dangle them, but I do listen to extremely loud music, especially bass.
That might be the reason why?

Don't see how music quality would effect that? Seems to just be product handling and quality.

If you still have the physical item or proof of purchase, you should really try contacting the company and letting them know of your problems. You might get a free pair or a discount or something.

I've never heard of that brand or seen that pair I'll check it out when I get back to my apartment.

    Tbh, here's the story:

I bought a Skullcandy pair of headphones with a warranty which allowed me to replace the headphones twice without question in a year. The same problem occured for me, and I went to get it replaced. However, they didn't have the same type and so they gave me a higher end pair of headphones (my current Headrushes). Since then I've replaced my cables twice, and am on my way to replace it a third time.

    Never but that crap again.
    Skull candy are a joke.

Go to website called headfi and search/Google around it for headphones in the style and price range you like.

I have a pair of JVC XXplosions I got for a good price... they never break because The jack has a breakaway guard.
I also have a pair of Headrush Toxik Rock that have some sweet bass and a sturdy jack.
In your next pair I would look for a thick type of jack and probably go with overears. You are more likely to take care of them rather than bundle them in your pocket and forget about them.

Another problem you are having is the cord is probably being bent so much in your pocket that it breaks over time. if you bend copper enough it will snap, so the headphones being tangled in your pocket during class just screws up your cord over time until they eventually break. You wont notice them breaking because when you put them on, one or both headphones may work for a second or two because the connection of the wires when you jiggle the cord will briefly provide you with what you were listening to. After constant soldering and reattaching the wires, its best to throw them out or scavenge them for your next mishap.

    Hope I helped
