    Thumbs up Guide to Reputation!

    Guide to Reputation!
    By @Chris!

    Foreword:

    This guide is all about reputation. I hope you enjoy this. Feel free to view another guide about reputation, found in Author's Note!

    Table of Contents:

    Introduction:

    Hello, and welcome to the guide. This guide is all about reputation, and since the last reputation guide was made ages ago, I thought I'd create a new one.

    What is Reputation?:

    Reputation is your penis size. Nah just kidding. Well, simply it's your rating from other members. Basically, when you post and another user believes you should be applauded, or if you posted a bad post, then you could receive either a +rep or a -rep. +rep being a postive reputation and -rep being a take reputation. Some people see your reputation as how much you're respected, while some members do not see reputation as being important. It's ultimately your choice of what you want to make reputation be. Your reputation can be viewed under your cups in any post you make, by the bars. When giving reputation, the amount of rep power you have is added to the receiver's reputation points. Refer to Calculating Reputation Power for more information.

    Please note: You can not keep repping a user multiple times in a row. You must spread rep around other users before you can rep the same user. You will see this if you try to:

    Reputation "Ranks":

    Here's a table with all (that I know of) ranks for reputation.

    Rep Points
    Text
    -9 - 9 ... is an unknown quantity at this point.
    10 - 49 ... is on a distinguished road.
    50 - 149 ... will become famous soon enough.
    150 - 249 ... has a spectacular aura about.
    250 - 349 ... is a jewel in the rough.
    350 - 449 ... is just really nice.
    450 - 549 ... is a glorious beacon of light.
    550 - 649 ... is a name known to all.
    650 - 999 ... is a splendid one to behold.
    1000 - 1499 ... has much to be proud of.
    1500 - 1999 ... has a brilliant future.
    2000+ ... has a reputation beyond repute.
    Negative
    Reputation
    -10 - -49 ... has a little shameless behaviour in the past.
    -50 - -99 ... can only hope to improve.
    -100 - -999999 ... says Think twice before posting Did you search for your anwser first ?
    -999999 - -Infinite ... is infamous around these parts

    If anything is wrong with that, let me know.

    Calculating Reputation Power:

    Reputation power is calculated with the following formula:

    Join date in years + Posts/1000 + Reputation/100.

    NOTE: Administrators have a maximum reputation power of 10.

    As an example, if you have been here for 3 years, made 3000 posts and have 200 rep then you will give 3+3+2=8 rep. Credits to JJ for that information.

    You can see a person's reputation (rounded to the hundreds) by the reputation boxes in the userbar above every post. These appear under the cups displayed in posts. One box is equal to 100 reputation points. This means 100 rep = 2 boxes, 200 rep = 3 boxes and so on. For negative reputation, -1 rep is 1 red box, -100 is 2 red boxes and so on. A grey box means the user has disabled reputation. They can still give reputation, but other users can not see it.

    Giving & Receiving Reputation:

    So a user has posted a post you think deserves reputation? Well, when giving reputation the amount of rep power you have is added to the receiver's reputation points. So, if you have 15 rep power, 15 reputation points will be added to the recipients' reputation points.

    Now, to give a user reputation, in a post of their's just click the reputation button outlined in this guide. Don't worry, there's images for both themes.

    When you receive reputation from a user, you will be notified by the notification system. Or you can go to: http://villavu.com/forum/usercp.php. Now, you should see this:

    This page shows you your total rep points, your rep power (if you've repped another user) and the rep you've received/given.

    Next to each of these is a coloured box, representing if you gave positive, or negative rep. These are:

    Metro:

    • - This means user that gave you rep has no reputation power (there is also a blue one, which is the same).
    • - This means you got +repped.
    • - This means you get -repped.

    Default:

    • - This means user that gave you rep has no reputation power (there is also a blue one, which is the same).
    • - This means you got +repped.
    • - This means you get -repped.

    Reasons to Give/Take Reputation:

    Reputation should be given to people who post meaningful, helpful, and thoughtful posts. Any post that contributes to the thread in a positive way probably deserves positive reputation. This does not mean that you agree with what was said; the point brought up may be completely opposite to what you believe, but it may be a good point nonetheless, and worthy of a pat on the back. Giving positive reputation to someone because they are your friend and deserve to have a few more green dots next to their name probably isn't a good reason to give positive reputation.

    Negative reputation should be given if the person is posting something that detracts from the conversation. If the post is rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc; these are all good reasons to give negative reputation. If you have a personal grudge with someone, it is not appropriate to give them negative reputation for no reason. Giving negative reputation because you don't agree with what was said is not an appropriate use of the reputation system. People are entitled to their own opinions, and just because you don't agree doesn't mean the user was wrong or not contributing to the conversation.

    Please note: Do NOT, under any circumstances, give out rep to users if they haven't done anything to deserve it. This is an infractable offence.

    Leaders in Reputation:

    With every community, there has to be some leaders in reputation. These users have been around for a long time and have contributed so much to SRL and the community. These are:

    1. @Brandon;
    2. @Flight;
    3. @YoHoJo;
    4. @Coh3n;
    5. @masterBB;

    You can view the entire list here: http://villavu.com/forum/misc.php?do=vsastats. Change Results to View: to 200 (or whatever) and then change the top right option (Top poster, newest member, etc) to Top Reputation.

    Author's Note:

    And another one bites the dust. If there's any grammatical errors, or things you feel should be changed/added to this then please, let me know!

    This is basically an update to the guide found here. Feel free to take a look at that guide aswell .

    Maybe add something about how there is a limit to how often you can rep someone. Nice guide

    Example of the rep limit:

    I think that that formulas a bit off. Coh3n only has a 10 rep power whereas according to the formula he should have 17 .

    Anyways, good guide!

    Should also be noted that De-rep power is Reputation Power/2 rounded down

    So if your reputation power is 5 your de-reputation power is 2

    Edit: @Chris! Brandon has surpassed wizzup? and zyntax(whatever his name is lol) and is now number 3 in leaders of reputation

    my bad... jk

    Honestly though, I really didn't know reputation existed until I got the notification that I had received some. Maybe changing the icon to +1 or a 'like' icon would make it (at least the button) more visible (especially since the downward arrow part is somewhat obsolete now)
